Profile: Kathy Garrison

Kathy Garrison is an accomplished artist, painting and selling her original works of art in oil and watercolor for over thirty five years. Her original works, including several commissioned pieces, are held in private collections around Georgia. She is also fortunate to have support and representation at many retail framing and decor shops and galleries throughout the southeast.

Statement

As a child growing up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, I became inspired by the beauty of the rural farmland surrounding me. I spent a lot of time walking down dirt roads and along the Etowah River where I lived, being aware at a very young age of the contentment of spirit I felt by recognizing this landscape as a beautiful creation of God.

I have achieved even greater inspiration while traveling with my husband. This has led to my desire to capture everything I can on canvas or paper, from rural farmlands to historic buildings and from old homes to public gardens. In my paintings, I try to convey what I experience when I see a place for the first time or in a new light. I hope that my interpretation of this scenic country we are blessed to live in leaves you with that same impression. If I have succeeded, you may remember a time when you visited such a place and perhaps it will bring a smile to your face.

As much as I enjoy landscape painting, I am always excited to begin a new still life painting. By incorporating family heirlooms passed down through the generations, vintage items of yesterday, or keepsakes of today, it is my goal to capture a sense of nostalgia.

Be sure to check my website regularly to see additional series or new paintings added to my current series. Don’t forget to join my mailing list to be alerted of upcoming shows or gallery representation where you can see my originals.

Art Education

While primarily self taught, several local teachers and other artists have given Kathy invaluable encouragement and she has improved her skill by studying with them. She also has a substantial library of books and videos of many renowned artists and has developed her method of painting by drawing from their expertise.
